Commentary

In Bangladesh, where the floodwaters have been known to wipe away lives, it is important to have the trappings of your life maintained in close proximity. As Ahnaf has shown in his magic floating circle, people and animal stick close together in the way of the wake. Here, the birds even look like fish, communicatng a blending of he sense of land and water. The birds also resemble the creatures of Miro. The children in the centre keep watch over the waves and hold round balloons with "year 2000" imprinted on them; this could be seen as a little "SOS" sign to the aerial rescue squads! Even though the scene is festively colored, there is a tension of needing to be vigilant about the waters. Nevertheless, note the sophistication of the domesticated animals, in this shaded and deep drawing of coping for safety
