Commentary
In Bangladesh, where the floodwaters have been known to
wipe away lives, it is important to have the trappings of your life maintained
in close proximity.
As Ahnaf has shown in his magic floating circle, people and animal stick
close together in the way of the wake. Here, the birds even look like fish,
communicatng a blending of he sense of land and water. The birds also resemble
the creatures of Miro. The children in the centre keep watch over the waves
and hold round balloons with "year 2000" imprinted on them; this could be
seen as a little "SOS" sign to the aerial rescue squads! Even though the
scene is festively colored, there is a tension of needing to be vigilant
about the waters. Nevertheless, note the sophistication of the domesticated
animals, in this shaded and deep drawing of coping for safety
